Central Public School

The first Central Public School in Renfrew, Ontario was constructed in 1875.  By 1910, the school, which was at a different location than the current school, had 8 rooms.  Over time, as Renfrew grew, so did the needs of the school population, prompting a major rebuild.  Land for a new school was purchased from the Brydges family, and in October of 1960, the current Central Public School welcomed it's first students.  This school initially offered programming for students in grades 6 through 8.  In 1985, the school celebrated it's 25th anniversary and became the Renfrew site for RCDSB's Astrolabe (gifted) programming.  In 1992, an expansion of the school took place, and an intermediate wing was created, making space for welcoming students from kindergarten though grade 8.  The year 2009 brought the creation of Renfrew Collegiate Intermediate School, thereby removing grades 7 and 8 from all elementary schools in Renfrew.  Central Public School became a kindergarten through grade 6 learning site at that time.  Central was also the first elementary school in the Renfrew family of schools to offer French Immersion programming.

Today, Central Public School is host to about 165 students in both French Immersion and English programming from kindergarten through grade 6.  As a school, we value inclusion, kindness and empathy for others.  Central Public continues to be a wonderful place for students to learn and grow.
