Special Education Services

Special education provides opportunities for students to grow and learn in a supportive environment that recognizes  their individual differences and promotes their full potential of students.

Some students have special needs that require additional supports beyond those available in a classroom setting. They are formally identified through the Identification, Placement and Review Committee (IPRC) process and have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that guides their programming. Other students may have an IEP without the formal identification.

Open Learning Classroom

Central Public School offers programming for students with higher needs through our Open Learning Classroom. Students in this classroom receive a modified or alternative program. Students are placed in this classroom through a County Identification, Placement and Review Committee (CIPRC) meeting.

Special Education Resource Teacher

Our school provides the services and support of a Special Education Resource Teacher (SERT) who works with identified students and their teachers to provide accommodations and/or modifications so the student can access  the curriculum. Educational assistants are available to meet the specific needs of some students (i.e. those who require additional safety or medical support).

School Support Counsellor

Central Public School is fortunate to have the services of a part-time school support counsellor who works with identified and not-identified students in all grade levels to promote pro-social behaviours, positive social skills, encourage regular attendance, assist with peer relationships and more.
